Abstract

182,786. Rateau, A. July 9, 1921, [Convention date]. Controlling.-Two groups a, a<1> of engines on an aeroplane are supplied with charging air from separate turbo-ccmpressors e, e<1>, driven by the exhaust from the engines. The exhaust pipes from the two engines are connected 'by a short pipe l, and have a common atmospheric outlet m. a flap valve n automatically shuts off one or other pipe, if the exhaust from one engine group stops. The air passes to the carburettors g, g<1> through radiators h, h<1> and pipes f, f<1>; these pipes are connected by a small-bore pipe i to equalize the air pressure in the two pipes f, f<1>. A valve j in the pipe i shuts off communication between the two pipes, if one cf the compressors fails.
