Abstract

182,730. Winslow, H. F. Oct. 24, 1921. Roller mills.-In a grinding-mill comprising a series of rolls adapted to operate in sequence upon the material, the material adjacent the ends of a later roll is automatically removed therefrom, and deposited on an earlier roll of the sequence. The operation is performed by a pair of devices spaced apart from one another longitudinally of the later roll of the sequence and adapted to collect the material from the end portions only of the roll and re-feed it to the earlier roll. Between the second and third rolls 2, 3 of the mill and at each end of them is secured a housing 18 of inverted U-shape, the legs of which are curved concavely as shown at 19 to fit the surface of the rolls 2, 3. Adjustably hinged to a bar 32 within the housing is a scraper 30 reaching almost to the meeting point of the rolls and pressed against the roll 3 by a spring 35 adjustably held on a screwed rod 36 between a non-rotatable nut 38 and the top of the scraper. The scraper throws the material on to the roller 2 which carries it back to the first roller to be reground, the sides of the housing preventing it from moving to the ends of the rolls.
