Abstract
181,405. Nobbs, C. G. Dec. 10, 1920. Electric radiators.-The resistance coil a of an electric radiator is wound upon or supported by an insulating former b with which it has minimum surface contact, and is enveloped by a diffusing-cover c which is grooved on one side to receive the coil and formed with prismatic or fluted surfaces on the other side to diffuse the heat. Fig. 1 shows an element suitable for use with a parabolic or steatite former b, a heat-diffusing cover c of quartz or cast iron enamelled internally, and an externally threaded earthenware plug e, the parts being secured together bv a central bolt f having a perforated cap g. The contact surface between the cover c and plug e is reduced to a minimum by serrating either or both of the contacting surfaces. Fig. 7 shows an arrangement in which the former b is integral with the support e. but they may be separated and either or both of them may be provided with serrated contact surfaces. Further an asbestos washer may be interposed between them. Fig. 9 shows a spirally-arranged wire a supported on a flat former b and covered bv a plate c, having a diffusing surface formed by a series cf prisms. The former b rests on snugs i<1> integral with a cast iron trav e fitted with legs j. Insulating strips are interposed between the former and the tray.
