Abstract

180,963. Rigby, T. Dec. 24, 1920. Gases, excluding.-In order to prevent the escape of steam past the bearings of rotating cylinders receiving steam through hollow spindles, washers 83, 95 are provided sliding on the spindles and fitting snugly in caps thereon. The washers are formed with carefully finished faces pressed against similar faces on the bushes 81, 91 in which the spindles rotate by springs 87, 97. To prevent the escape of oil from the upper bearing, another washer 103 is pressed against the lower end of the bush 91 by springs 105.
