Skiving &c.-A skiving-machine with a cylindrical cutter m and grinding wheel r has a lower feed roller h mounted in a protective casing hinged on a pin, the axis of which is parallel to the table plate of the machine and coincident with the axis of the driving-shaft of the feed roller. The hinged casing b carries a worm wheel l which is driven from a worm n on shaft o and drives the feed roller h through a shaft q, and has an integral sleeve c mounted in bearings d, d<1>, in the fixed frame. A key c on the sleeve engages a keyway to prevent the turning of the casing until it has been laterally displaced to withdraw the roller h from the cutter.
