Abstract

178,969. Kern, R. Feb. 4, 1921. Currycombs.-The bristles b of a wire brush, instead of being approximately at right angles to the base d, as shown, may be inclined towards one side, the brush functioning as a combined brush and currycomb. The same brush may be used to curry both coarse and soft-haired horses according to the direction in which the brush is applied. The bristles consist of a number of slightly divergent U-shaped wires inserted to form an oval surface in a base of rubber-cloth so that they cause the lower side of the rubber-cloth to be tensioned and arched. The cloth is backed by a sheet of felt e and is held in position within the curved edge c of a metal plate a, an air cushion being formed between the sheet of felt and the metal plate. After each depression of the brush in use, the air cushion is re-formed owing to the resiliency of the wires.
