Sectional boilers.-The intermediate sections of a boiler have sloping depending ribs 12 each bearing a concave baffle under which a gas burner 1 is mounted. Each section has baffles 7, 8 and a partition 2 in the water space to promote circulation. In the case of a steam generator the baffles 8 serve to baffle and dry the steam. Between each two ribs 12 refractory balls 13 split up the rising gases. Water condensing on the under side of the elements is directed by a lip to a tray 17. In place of a single upward pass for the products of combustion they may pass also downward to a chimney at the back.
