Hand-actuation; covers and protectors for brakes.-A locking-device for manually-operated tramcar or like brakes comprises a crown-wheel b on the spindle a, one or more pawls c pressed into engagement with the wheel b by a spring d, and a foot-lever n for raising the pawls c again, and is characterized by a safety casing e which prevents passengers from accidentally releasing the brake. A modification wherein a detent or pawl is moved horizontally into engagement with a wheel is similarly fitted with a safety casing.
