Abstract

174,568. Surpneu Ges., (formerly Pneusan Ges.). Jan. 24, 1921, [Convention date]. Plastic compositions containing dextrin, starch, &c.-A compound for inserting in inner tubes of tyres to seal punctures has as one of its constituents a fermentable derivative of starch such as dextrin in which fermentation is set up either spontaneously or by an addition e.g. of yeast. When such a compound is introduced into a tyre, the air pressure completely or nearly arrests fermentation until a puncture occurs, when carbon dioxide is formed and some of the compound is forced into the puncture. Preferably the fermentation is initiated before the compound is pumped into the tyre and always when spontaneous fermentation is relied on, in the presence of a substance retarding fermentation. According to an example, 250 parts by weight of dextrin, 50‹ parts of tripoli, and 170 parts of kaolin are triturated and agitated with 600 parts of water. 10 parts of vegetable gum, and a small quantity of solution of gum benzoin are added, and the mixture is left at room temperature, preferably after the addition of yeast, until fermentation is set up. The mixture is placed in sealed bottles from which it is introduced into the tyre.
