Rotary apparatus.-In a rotary distributor for irrigation purposes of the kind in which a reaction wheel carries a number of outlet jets, the speed of rotation of which is checked by a braking device of the kind in which liquid is stirred by a member actuated by the reaction wheel; the braking-device comprises a cylinder 3 connected to the reaction wheel and immersed in a viscous liquid contained in an annular vessel 4 adjustably mounted on the fixed part of the apparatus. In order to prevent water from being sprinkled into the vessel 4, the plate 9 carrying the cylinder 3 is provided with depending screens 6, 7. The braking liquid may consist of a mixture of resin and oil.
