Abstract
171,184. Bufford, G. W. Aug. 12, 1920. Chain wrenches.-A chain pipe-wrench is formed of a handle A in which is secured a jaw B. which is preferably formed with two sets of oppositely inclined teeth from a to b, and a to c, Fig. 1, so as to be reversible, the jaw being formed with cut-away or bifurcated end portions f, g, Fig. 3, to receive the handle and chain respectively, and with a full width central portion B<1> which is arranged to bear on the work when pipe flanges or fittings are being operated on. The chain is secured to a link L, Fig. 1 connected by a pin to lugs r on the handle, or the chain may be secured directly to the lugs r. The chain is locked to lugs s on bifurcated portions j, k of the handle A. These bifurcated portions are bored to receive a securing screw i fitted with locking-nuts, the screw i also passing through an aperture in a central web m formed on the jaw, the jaw being recessed at n to receive lugs o on the parts a<1>, a<2>, the lugs being formed with stops for preventing rotation of the jaw relatively to the handle. The links u lie against rounded parts f<1>, g<1> formed by filled-in metal which is used to strengthen the bifurcations f, g, and a groove r is formed in the part m to permit the link of a welded chain to lie close to the centre of the jaw B. The length of the full width portion B<1> is preferably equal to the bifurcated portions on each side, or if the jaw is not reversible, the full width portion is a half of the bifurcated portions. The jaw may be formed integral with the handle
