Abstract

171,135. Vines, J. C., and Marsden, P. A. July 6, 1920. Tell-tale apparatus.-In a method of indicating variations of physical conditions at a distance, the movement of a member of the instrument affected by the conditions causes a corresponding movement of an earthed sliding contact 19 on a resistance 18, the ends of which are connected as in Specification 8784/91 to the ends of two coils in a differential galvanometer, the other ends being connected together and earthed through a battery 17. The constants of the galvanometer are arranged so that the pointer reads zero for a predetermined position of the sliding contact 19. Two forms of galvanometer are described, one an astatic moving-magnet instrument, and one with fixed magnet and moving coils. In both cases the coils are arranged with their planes at about 30 degrees to each other. The invention is shown applied to the indication of pressure, temperature, and inclination, and is applicable to instruments measuring wind and water velocities and other purposes.
