Aug. 3, 1920 Sweeping-machines. - Relates to sweeping- machines of the kind in which an inclined rotary brush, carried on a framework drawn or propelled over the road surface, sweeps the refuse to one side of the machine and in which a means, such as a turntable mounting, is provided for varying the width of track operated upon, and consists in supporting the brush by arms loosely mounted on a shaft carried by one or more brackets from the turntable. In the form shown, the brush n is supported by gear-boxes l, l<1> loosely mounted on a shaft k, which is carried by a bracket j secured to a turntable i mounted in a support h on the vehicle frame a. The brush may be manually displaced into any angular position, the turntable being locked by turning a dog i<1> between any pair of a series of lugs h<2>; or the turntable may be rotated through worm or like gearing from the driver's seat. The brush is rotated on its axis m from the gear-box c through a bevel-wheel p on a shaft o engaging a bevel-wheel q on a shaft r turning freely in the turntable i, this shaft also carrying a bevel-wheel r' driving, through an inclined shaft t moving with the turntable, a bevel-wheel v, mounted on the shaft k, which is chain-geared at x, x<1> to the brush shaft m. When mounted on a horse-drawn vehicle or a trailer, the brush may be driven from a road-wheel.
