Abstract
170,748. Thompson, J. L. Sept. 27, 1920. Current detectors; current direction indicators. -A storage-battery tester comprises an electrode 13 adapted to be immersed, a second electrode 26 and an indicator such as a lamp 18 in circuit between the two electrodes. The electrode 13 may be of cadmium. The electrode 13 is connected by a rod 14 to the clutch contact of a lamp socket 17, and the socket 17 is connected by flexible cable to the electrode 26. The electrode 13 and connecting- rod are housed in a tube 11, which may be of glass and has a gasket 15 preventing the electrolyte of the battery from rising in the tube. A guard and spacing-cup 12 covers the electrode 13. The tube 11 and electrode 13 are adapted to be inserted through the filling-hole of a battery, the guard cap 12 resting upon the battery elements. A test of level and condition of electrolyte is thus obtained, and with the electrolyte standing at correct level the condition of the cell may be ascertained. The device serves as a polarity indicator also if the immersible electrode be of cadmium.
