Abstract

169,645. Faber, A. Dec. 2, 1920. Rudders.-Comprises a watertight stem fitting for boats which contains a bearing for the propeller shaft and also one for the rudder-operating rod. A cylindrical member 1<a>, Figs. 2 and 5, is bored at 5<a> and 3<a> to carry the bearings 5, 3 of the propeller shaft 4 and rudder shaft 2, the bear ings having glands 15 and 6 respectively. The member 1<a> is externally threaded and two conical faced nuts 1 are screwed thereon to support it in the stern frame 17. Supported on the sleeve 5 is a rudder post 9 which carries a rudder 14 adapted to be operated by the steering-rod 2. through bevel-gearing 7, 8.
