Abstract
169,226. Bevan, S. P. June 14, 1920. Spouts; strainers.-A filling and discharge device for tanks, drums, casks, and petrol, oil, or other liquid containers comprises a tubular member a, Fig. 1. closed at one end and screwing within a gland j, k secured to the vessel and provided with a washer l to make a tight joint. Inside the tube is an outlet tube d and an air inlet tube f which may extend beyond the open end g of the tube a. A strainer h is in some cases provided. In closed position the end b of the tube a is screwed up to the member k of the gland, but to fill or draw off the tube is withdrawn to the position shown. In an alternative form the tube a is secured rigidly to the vessel, as shown by the dotted lines, and the openings controlled by movement of the gland. In the form shown in Fig. 3, inlet and outlet apertures e<1>, d<1> are provided in a member a<1> screwing on the outside of a sleeve j<1> screwed on to the vessel and having a vent tube f<1> and a strainer. In a modification the member a<1> carrying the apertures may screw within the member j<1>.
