Abstract

167,220. Collis, R. Nov. 5, 1920. Treadle mechanism.-Relates to foot-operated vehicles, such as children's toy carts, bath chairs, &c., of the kind which are propelled by treadles connected by connecting-rods and cranks to the driving-wheels, and consists of a construction wherein the seat, treadle levers, and steering-wheel are adjustable along the frame to suit children of various sizes. The frame comprises two spaced members b of wood &c. mounted on a pair of rear driving-wheels e and a pair of front steering-wheels d. The treadles o<2> are mounted on levers o, the lower ends of which are connected by rods p to cranks r on the back axle s, the outer ends of which are supported in a crossframe. The seat m and the levers o are adjustable along the frame, which is provided with a series of holes for the purpose. Steering is effected by means of a hand-wheel h connected by an adjustable telescopic stem i, i<1> to a pulley j, to which are secured two wires &c. k passing through guide-tubes l to the outer ends of the front axle f, which is movably mounted in slots g in the members b. An adjustable band-brake w operated by a hand-lever x passes round a flywheel r on the back axle.
