Abstract
166,962. Antonelli, G. April 23, 1920. Fender.-Consists of a shock absorber, applicable for boat buffers but described as applied to vehicles, comprising a lever pivoted to the vehicle body and carrying a wheel axle at one end, the other end being elastically connected to the body, the effect of rebound being damped by a unidirectional brake provided on the lever pivot. As applied to a landing gear for aeroplanes, the lever 5, 8, Fig. 1, is pivoted on a support 2 extending from the frame 1, to which the upper end is connected by an elastic member 14 made of two ties spaced apart by separators 15 and held by washers 13 on the studs 10, 11. The lower end of the lever carries the wheel axle, and the lever is braked on rebound by a friction brake consisting of a plate 16, Fig. 5, on the arm 2 separated by a disc 17 from a plate 18 connected with a plate 19 in an opening in the lever 8, and a ratchet-wheel 20 on the face of the lever. The friction is regulated by an adjustable spring 22 on the axle 4, while a pawl 24 on the lever engages the ratchet-wheel 20 on rebound.
