Abstract

166,262. Saunderson, H. P. Sept. 23, 1919. Ploughs.-A multiple furrow plough for haulage by mechanical tractor or other power is supported on land and furrow wheels f, e, and a rear wheel f<0>. The land-wheel f is carried on a cranked axle f<1> to which is attached a bracket g supporting a shaft g<1> carrying a crank-disc j. The shaft g<1> also carries a loose sprocket-wheel h<2> driven by chain from a sprocket-wheel h on the wheel f and adapted to be clutched to the shaft g<1> by pulling a cord i<5> attached to a clutch lever i. The crank-pin of the disc is connected by a rod j<2> to a lever j<3> pivoted on the main frame and adapted to be adjusted along a quadrant j' to vary the depth of working. As the shaft g<1> rotates, moving the crank-pin, the bracket g and cranked axle f<1> are swung about the axis of the latter thus raising or lowering the ploughs. To lock the ploughs in the raised or the lowered position and to ensure that the shaft g' remains clutched to the wheel h<2> for a full half-revolution, the lever i is connected to a crank-pin l which is adapted to enter into one or other of two recesses k, k<1> situated opposite to each other in the disc j. When the pin l is in either of these recesses the clutch is freed and the disc is locked against rotation. Whilst the pin l is riding on the edge of the disc the clutch is kept thrown in even though the cord i<5> is released. To operate the furrow wheel simultaneously with the land. wheel a rod m connects the bracket g with an extension of a racked quadrant n adapted to be adjustably locked, to a shaft n<1> mounted in the plough frame and carrying an arm n' slotted to engage a pin o on the sliding vertical support p of the wheel e. The plough is provided with a draw-bar r pivoted at r', which on being deflected to either. side causes deflection of the wheels e and f<o> as described in Specification 166,496, arms on the vertical supports of these wheels being connected by a rod v, and the support p of the wheel e also carrying an arm s connected to the draw-bar r.
