Refrigerating, compression machines for.-The driving-gear casing f of a small compression machine is arranged in the vessel m containing the evaporator coil d, the condenser b being arranged in a tank around the cylinders. The passage for the refrigerant slopes continuously from the top of the condenser coil to the bottom of the evaporator coil, which communicates with the interior of the gear casing at the bottom so that any refrigerant not vaporized in the evaporator, and oil entrained with the refrigerant from the compressor, flow automatically into the gear casing, where the refrigerant evaporates. A regulating- valve c is fitted between the condenser coil and the evaporator coil. The pistons a<1>, a<2> are driven from a main shaft g through a crank h, connecting-rod i and rocking arm k, the arrangement being such as to prevent wet compression by the splashing of liquefied refrigerant into the cylinders. In a modification the evaporator coil is located at the side of the gear casing; or two coils may be used, one surrounding the gear casing and one arranged at the side of it.
