Controlling variable-speed gearing. -The control lever is adapted to be rocked in two planes at right, angles, in one plane about an axis passing through its end, and in other about a ball-andsocket joint between its ends. The level g is pivoted to the control shaft a which has a finger j i working in a gate c in the form of a concave grating. A casing f is mounted on bearings b, d and is fitted with a ball- and-socket joint k for the control lever. To prevent accidental movement of the lever into the reverse position a sliding sleeve or bolt m is provided which normally engages a fixed stop l. When the lever is to be moved to its reverse position the bolt is depressed by means of a rod o against the action of a spring n.
