Check lift valves.-A compressor of the kind described in Specifications 127,225, [Class 8 (i), Air and gases, Compressing &c.], and 151,902, comprises a false or yielding cylinder head formed of two concentric discs 20, 22 wherein are housed ring valves 30, 31, retained in concentric position by spring-pressed plungers i, carrying steady pins which allow a limited movement; the valves are retained on their seats by light helical springs m. The discs 20, 22 are held together by a screwed bolt 21 and nut n, and the upper disc is held by helical springs q housed in cavities in its upper surface and bearing against the removable cover p. The lower disc rests on a seating r and is formed with inclined or other holes 27 communicating with annular slots in its upper surface, which are closed by the ring valves 30, 31. The upper disc is formed with an annular channel 37 enclosing the valves, in which the gas is collected and from which it is led by a passage 38 and chamber s to the discharge conduit. The plungers i carrying the steady pins are housed in holes h within the channel 37. Shoulders k on the pins limit the lifts of the valves.
