Abstract

164,769. Frood, H. Sept. 17, 1919. Stairs and staircases. - A reversible nosing for stairs has thickened wearing parts 3 connected by a thinner part 4 adapted to fit round the stair-nose 5. Thin marginal extensions 7 may be provided so that the nosing and the front edge of the stair tread 6 may be attached by one set of fasteners, the lower extension being folded as shown. The nosing may be made of indiarubber or fibrous material bonded with cementitious material such as india-rubber, phenolic resin, bitumen, or gums, and may be strengthened by metal plates or wire fabric. The thickened portion 3 may be formed during the weaving, by doubling, or by stitching on separate pieces.
