Abstract

162,361. Nettlefold, O. Jan. 23, 1920. Locking nuts.-A device for locking nuts &c. consists of a metal band closely engaging and cross-threading the thread of the bolt &c. and anchored to the nut at its ends. As shown a spring wire is bent into two open loops a, c at rightangles, with ends a<1>, c<1> projecting beyond the respective loops. The loop c engages the side of the nut. Modifications are described in which the ends of the wire are anchored in holes or slots in the nut, or to stops or pins projecting from the side or top of the nut. By springing the end a<1> over the end c<1>, or by springing the ends into the holes or slots or on to the pins, the loop will be in tension and in close engagement with the thread. The wire may be of flattened section to enable the loop c to fit snugly against the side of the nut.
