Abstract

160,561. Teague, F. C. Dyche-. Dec. 23, 1919. Carbon.-Pure carbon is obtained from crude material, such as coke, by oxidizing it to carbon monoxide, passing the gas over a catalytic material so that carbon dioxide is formed and carbon deposited, and then separating the catalyst from the carbon by magnetic or gravitational means. Carbon monoxide formed from coke in the heated chamber 1 passes through a porous firebrick screen 4 into the chamber 2 containing finely divided iron or other catalyst. The carbon dioxide may be passed back into the chamber 1 for reduction to carbon monoxide.
