(54) A MALE GARMENT (71) I, EMMA TALLIA, of Via Vinadio, 22-Torino, Italy, of Italian nationality, do hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:- The present invention relates to a male garment commonly known as "briefs".

Such garments, made of wool or elastomerized cotton or cotton thread, are often uncomfortable to wear due to the presence of lateral seams and to the pressure they exert upon certain parts of the body.

An object of the invention is to provide improved briefs which can be made to be comfortable and to fit perfectly.

The present invention consists in a male garment in the form of briefs fabricated from a seamless fabric tube for encircling the hips of the wearer, and having a crotch portion extending centrally between the front and back of the tube, the crotch portion at one end being formed integrally with the fabric of the tube during its manufacture and at the centre secured to the tube, and the crotch portion towards the front of the garment being pre-formed with an outwardly directed bulge so as to follow the contour of the body without exerting undue pressure.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a front view of one form of briefs according to the present invention, when worn; Figure 2 is a rear view of Figure 1; and Figure 3 is a perspective view of the briefs during manufacture.

In carrying the invention into effect according to one convenient mode by way of example. Figure 3 shows the briefs in the process of being manufactured by first weaving a seamless fabric tube on a tubular loom so that there will be no seams on the hips of the garment. Its initial shape is so arranged as to have an extension B formed during the manufacture of the fabric tube integrally with the front or abdominal part of the tube, as shown or alternatively with the rear of the tube. The extension B is provided with an outwardly directed bulge C, for example by means of a heating method. The free margin B 1 of extension B is then secured to the rear part of the tube as at D (Figure 2). Finally, the garment is completed with elastic or elasticized bands E. The extension B thus serves as a crotch portion, the bulge C enabling the garment to follow the contour of the body without exerting undue pressure.

WHAT I CLAIM IS: 1. A male garment in the form of briefs fabricated fom a seamless fabric tube for encircling the hips of the wearer, and having a crotch portion extending centrally between the front and back of the tube, the crotch portion at one end being formed integrally with the fabric of the tube during its manufacture and at the centre secured to the tube, and the crotch portion towards the front of the garment being pre-formed with an outwardly directed bulge so as to follow the contour of the body without exerting undue pressure.
