Abstract

160,448. Hackett, W. March 15, 1920, [Convention date]. Riveting. - A nutless bolt especially adapted for clamping plates &c. together prior to riveting, is provided with a slot to receive a key 4 which may be stepped, as shown, or comprise one recess only. A wedge 11 having side members straddling the bolt co-operates with a locking block 10 encircling the bolt to apply the necessary pressure for clamping the plates A, B, a packing washer or washers 9 being interposed between the block 10 and the key 4. The sides of the wedge are recessed and provided with ratchet teeth 16 adapted to be engaged by projections 17 on the block 10 so as to look the wedge in adjusted position. The rear of the block 10 is bevelled as at 19 to permit the block to berocked so as to bring the teeth out of engagement. In a modification, the recesses in the sides of the wedges are dispensed with and the block engages the whole width of the side members.
