Abstract

The marking apparatus is provided with a chassis (1) for a paint container (5) receiving the marking paint. The marking paint is driven, by compressed air, out of the paint container (5) onto a spray diffuser (8), arranged between paint-distributing discs (34), and, from here, is brought directly onto the marking surface or onto a paint-distributing roll which is swivellably arranged on the chassis between the spray diffuser and the marking surface. An independent compressed-air supply means (10) is arranged on the chassis (1), at a distance from the paint container (5), and is connected, via a line (12) with control valve (11), to that end of the paint container (5) which is remote from the paint outlet (21). <IMAGE>

Description

(54) MARKING APPARATUS (71) We, ZUFOR INDUSTRIE MASCHINEN ING. HANSJURGEN WOLANY KG, of 8500 Nurnberg, Saganerstrasse 6, Federal Republic of Germany, a Kommanditgesellschaft organised under the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, do hereby declare the invention for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: The present invention relates to a marking apparatus.
According to the present invention there is provided marking apparatus comprising a trolley provided with a pressure vessel for a marking medium, supply means for supplying a regulable flow of a pressure medium for expelling the marking medium from the vessel, a discharge nozzle connected to the pressure vessel and mounted on the trolley by mounting means to be vertically and laterally adjustable, the mounting means comprising a support adjustably connected to the trolley, an upright rod member arranged on the support and provided with a planar clamping surface, and a slidable nozzle support arm projecting from the rod member and retained in a selectable position therealong, and adjustable limiting means associated with the nozzle for limiting the spread of the marking medium towards either side of the trolley.
Preferably, the support comprises a substantially U-sectioned frame member connected to the trolley by carrier rods.
Expediently, the nozzle support arm is provided with a clamping screw pressurably engaging the clamping surface to locate the arm in said position.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be more particularly described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a schematic side elevation of marking apparatus according to the said embodiment, Fig. 2 is a plan view of part of the mark inn apparatus, Fig. 3 is an elevation, to an enlarged scale, of the nozzle region of the apparatus, and Fig. 4 is a plan view, to an even larger scale, of a nozzle support arm of the apparatus.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings, there is shown marking apparatus comprising a trolley 1 provided with two pairs of wheels 2 and movable by means of handles 3 provided with handgrips 4. The trolley 1 carries a paint container 5 for the storage of marking paint.
At one side of the container 5 is a paint outlet 21 provided with a closure valve 6.
Connected to the valve 6 is a duct 7 with leads to a paint atomiser nozzle 8 held by a carrier 9 above a surface to be marked.
The nozzle 8 is controlled by means of a hand-operated lever 15 mounted on one of the handles 3.
The carrier 9 comprises a U-shaped frame 23. which is slidably and pivotably mounted on the trolley by carrier rods 28 and 29 and which is retained in a selectable position. The frame 23 carries a round rod 25 provided with a flat clamping surface 24 and a support arm 26, which holds the atomiser nozzle 8 in a bore 27, is slidably arranged on the rod 25. The arm 26 rereives a clamping screw 30, which pressurably engages the clamping surface 24 so as to hold the arm 26 at a desired height on the rod 25 and to mount the arm 26 free of rotation.
Fixed to the frame 23 is a metal holding plate 31 provided with slots, in which are selectively engageable pins 33 of levers 32 mounted on the carrier rods 29, the levers being located at a selectable spacing apart by this means. The levers 32 carry paint limiting plates 34 for laterally limiting the spread of paint discharged through the nozzle.
Arranged on the trolley 1 is a compressed air tank 10 provided with a regulating valve 11 at an outlet 20. A duct 12 is connected to the regulating valve and leads to the space disposed above the paint in the container 5. The tank 10 is provided with a manual air pump having an actuating handle 13, which is externally accessible.
Alternatively, the apparatus may be provided with a compressor operable to fill the tank with compressed air. Such a compressor can be manually operable or operable by a motor, and can be, for example, disposed within the tank and operable externally thereof. The tank itself may comprise part of the trolley.
To use the apparatus, the paint container 5 is filled with paint and hermetically sealed by a closure member 14. By actuation of the air pump, the tank 10 is filled with compressed air which is supplied to the paint container through the regulating valve 11 and the duct 12, so that paint will be discharged through the nozzle 8 on actuation of the lever 15.
The lower end of the air tank 10 is provided with an edge strip screwed or riveted to angle members connected with the trolley 1. The paint container 5 is mounted on the trolley in a similar manner.
A facility for compressed air or paint delivery to, for example, an independent discharge device is provided by arranging the outlets 20 and 21 to have two outlet connections 20'. 20" and 21' and 21".
respectively.
The embodiment described above provides stable pressure conditions in the paint container and a versatile mounting of the nozzle, WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. Marking apparatus comprising a trolley provided with a pressure vessel for a marking medium, supply means for supplying a regulable flow of a pressure medium for expelling the marking medium from the vessel, a discharge nozzle connected to the pressure vessel and mounted on the trolley by mounting means to be vertically and laterally adjustable, the mounting means comprising a support adjustably connected to the trolley, an upright rod member arranged on the support and provided with a planar clamping surface, and a slidable nozzle support arm projecting from the rod member and retained in a selectable position therealong, the adjustable limiting means associated with the nozzle for limiting the spread of the narking medium towards either side of the trolley.
2. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein the support comprises a sub stanflally U-sectioned frame member connected to the trolley by carrier rods.
3. Apparatus as claimed in either claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the nozzle support arm is provided with a clamping screw pressurably engaging the clamping surface to locate the arm in said position.
4. Apparatus as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the nozzle support arm is provided with a bore receiving the nozzle, the nozzle being so adjustable in its position in the bore as to effect adjustment in the height of the nozzle.
5. Apparatus as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, the limiting means comprising two pivotable plates mounted one at each of two opposite sides of the nozzle and arranged at an adjustable spacing from each other.
6. Marking apparatus substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
