Description

(54) TRANSPORT CONTAINERS AND INDUSTRIAL PLANT AND/OR MACHINES READY FOR SHIPMENT (71) We. BRAN & LUBBE, a body corporate organized under the laws of the German Federal Republic, of Werkst-rasse 4, 2000 Norderstedt, German Federal Republic, do hereby declare the invention for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed to be particularly described in and by the following statement: This invention relates to the combination of a transport container and a water purification plant ready for shipment.
The erection of industrial plants in developing countries is attended by considerably difficulties, particularly because in those regions the necessary transport roads and facilities - the so-called infrastructure is frequently lacking, suitable personnel is not often available, and the acquisition of small materials. tools, and assembly accessories is in many cases practically impossible.
According to one aspect of the present invention there is provided a combination of a transport container which is dimensioned so as to comply with regulations governing the sizes of transport containers for sea or air transport and of a water purification plant so mounted within the container in an assembled condition that, upon delivery of the combination to a prepared site, the plant is substantially ready for use.
According to another aspect of the present invention there is provided water purification plant as just indicated assembled together with one or more similar transport containers mounting tanks.
All the parts of these plants of low and medium capacity can therefore be assembled in the exporting country so as to be ready for operation and are then delivered as transportable units. The transport units are equipped with standardised fastening elements, so that they can be loaded and shipped in ordinary containers or freight pallets. At the erection site, the units making up the complete plant are placed on prepared foundations and simply connected to one another by means of piping, hoses, and cables supplied with them, whereupon the plants are ready for operation.
These plants are used for water purification, and are intended for erection in the open. Sensitive parts, such as pumps, switches, control equipment, and moving machine units are expediently accommodated in closed chambers or rooms. These may if desired be equipped with air conditioning plants, which are delivered at the same time. Depending upon requirements, the individual units may be erected either horizontally or vertically; vertical installations are, for example, recommended when the static pressure of a high-level tank is required for supplying a flowing liquid system. In many cases it may be sufficient for control stations situated outside the actual operating rooms to be covered by tenting.
Tanks which exceed the standard dimensions of ordinary containers are advantageously formed of collapsible material.
For this purpose it is for example possible to use tarpaulins of high-strength plastics material coated with polyethylene or similar liquid-tight media. When the individual structural units are assembled a closed interior space can be formed, in which the flexible tank can be supported on all sides.
Tanks of this kind can for example be used for water purification purposes as water reservoirs, sedimentation basins, flocculation reactors, and the like. In certain cases it may also be sufficient to incorporate supporting structures in the transport containers and to form the necessary tanks in this manner.
It may as a rule be assumed that electric power, or at least fuel for generating power, will be available at the erection site. Power for the plant may be supplied by diesel or carburettor engines, which are likewise supplied ready for use with all accessories, as described above, their size being adapted to that of a standard container.
In order to enable the invention to be more readily understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate diagrammatically and by way of example some embodiments thereof, and in which each of Figures 1 to 5 is a perspective view of a different embodiment.
Referring now to Figure I there is shown a transport container in which a filter station for water is packed ready for operation. The entire machine unit including motors 2, pumps 3, piping 4, etc. is accommodated in one half 1 of the container, while a filter batterv 5 consisting of four filters is packed in transportable form in the other half 61 of the container.
The container has dimensions corresponding to the standard dimensions compiled for transport container shipments or to the pallet dimensions customary for air freight shipments, and is equipped with standardised fastening elements to receive the components of the filter station. In the assembled installation it is expedient for the machine room above all to be enclosed.
Figure 2 shows a river water treatment plant which is ready for use, and in which the equipment shown in Figure 1 is also used. The containers 6 and 7, having the same dimensions as the container 1, 61, are sedimentation vessels, while the container 8 serves as store for chemicals.
Figure 3 shows diagrammatically the arrangement of four container units 9, 10, 11 and 12, each of which is of the same dimensions as the container 1, 61, to form between them a compartment for a large collapsible tank 13. This tank may for example be made of high-strength polyterephthalate fibres coated with polyethylene. For practical use the tank is fastened to the walls of the four container units, which thus serve as supports.
Figure 4 shows a transport container 14 which is provided with built-in conical steel walls 15 and 16 to form a sedimentation tank.
Figure 5 shows that container units 17 and 18 can be disposed vertically one above the other at the site. This may be useful particularly when a certain pressure is required for flowing liquids, this pressure being easily obtained by raising a tank 19.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. A combination of a transport container which is dimensioned so as to comply with regulations governing the sizes of transport containers for sea or air transport and of a water purification plant so mounted within the container in an assembled condition that, upon delivery of the combination to a prepared site, the plant is substantially ready for use.
2. A combination of a transport container and a water purification plant substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to any one of Figures 1 to 3 of the accompanying drawings.
3. Water purification plant as claimed in Claim 1 or 2 assembled together with one or more similar transport containers mounting tanks.
4. Plant as claimed in Claim 3 wherein a plurality of transport containers, at least one of which forms part of said combination, is arranged to bound a closed interior space for holding a tank of flexible material.
