Abstract

159,963. Reynolds, E. B. Dec. 6. 1919. Inhalers.-A device for administering anµsthetics to animals comprises a stiff leather or like body A having a soft upper portion A<1> and a lower conical part A<2> provided with a ring B into which a metal cylinder C containing the anµsthetic is inserted. The inner end of tho cylinder is closed by an inspiratory valve consisting of a rubber disc c carried by a pin secured within the cylinder, expiratory valves b being fitted in the conical part A<2> of the nose-piece. In the case of large animals, means are provided for automatically introducing an additional supply of anµsthetic comprising a metal cylinder D open at both ends and adapted to fit into the cylinder C. Carried by the cylinder D is a holder E for a bottle from which the anµsthetic passes by a tube e to an absorbent pad carried by a perforated tray G, the flow being controlled by an adjustable screw plug e<1>. Secured to the tray G are semicircular ends g, g<1> arranged so that inspired air must pass through the tray G.
