(54) IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO DISPLAY STANDS (71) We, CLARKS LIMITED, a British Company, of Street, Somerset, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a Patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:- This invention relates to display stands.

According to this invention there is provided a display stand comprising a base carrying a central vertical post, a support means mounted for rotation about the post and a plurality of outwardly facing shelf units which are mounted on the support means and disposed about the post and each of which is removable from the support means as a unit independently of the other unit or units, each shelf unit having two upright side members and a plurality of vertically spaced shelves secured at their ends to the respective side members.

Preferably, each shelf unit also incorporates a back wall. In a preferred arrangement, one side member of each shelf unit is disposed adjacent the rear face of the back wall of the next adjacent unit in one and the same direction about the post.

One embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display stand according to the invention with one shelf unit displaced to show the construction, and Figures 2 and 3 are respectively side and plan views of the display stand.

Referring to the drawings the display stand has a square base 10 which is secured vertical tubular post 11. Spaced apart along the length of the post are two supports each in the form of a square plate 12 with edge flanges 13, each flange 13 having secured to it a channel section element 14. Corresponding end parts of the elements 14 project laterally beyond one end of the respective flanges. Each of the plates 12 has a central hole through which the post extends, and the plate rests on a washer (not shown) which in turn rests on a pin (not shown) extending diametrically through the post, so that the plates can rotate about the post.

The two plates support four shelf units 15, each of which is made from the stiff paper board material that cheap suitcases are commonly made from, and the shelf units have metal reinforcement members riveted to their corners in the same way as is common with the said suitcases. Each shelf unit has a back wall 16, top and bottom walls 17a and two side walls 17b, 1 7c to which are riveted the turned-down ends of a series of vertically spaced shelves 18. Hooked strip elements 19 are secured to the back wall of each unit and are hooked on to the elements 14 to mount the unit on the supports. The units each have one corresponding side wall 17b disposed adjacent the rear surface of the back wall 16 of the next adjacent unit 15 in one direction about the post, as shown.

Rivets 20 may be used to secure stiff washers 21 to the back face of each unit adjacent its upper end, so that the washers back removable cards 22 which have slotted bottom edges for engaging the rivets.

A flanged plate 24 similar to the plates 12 is mounted on the post above the units and has secured to its flanges four cards or frames 25 to receive cards for advertising matter. As shown, one side of each of the cards or frames 25 projects laterally beyond the plate 24.

The products to be displayed are placed on the shelves of the units.

WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. A display stand comprising a base carrying a central vertical post, a support means mounted for rotation about the post, and a plurality of outwardly facing shelf units which are mounted on the. support means and disposed about the post and each of which is removable from the support means as a unit independently of the other unit or units, each shelf unit having two upright side members and a plurality of vertically spaced shelves secured at their ends to the respective side members.

2. A display stand as claimed in claim 1, wherein each shelf unit also incorporates a back wall.

According to this invention there is provided a display stand comprising a base carrying a central vertical post, a support means mounted for rotation about the post and a plurality of outwardly facing shelf units which are mounted on the support means and disposed about the post and each of which is removable from the support means as a unit independently of the other unit or units, each shelf unit having two upright side members and a plurality of vertically spaced shelves secured at their ends to the respective side members. Preferably, each shelf unit also incorporates a back wall. In a preferred arrangement, one side member of each shelf unit is disposed adjacent the rear face of the back wall of the next adjacent unit in one and the same direction about the post. One embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display stand according to the invention with one shelf unit displaced to show the construction, and Figures 2 and 3 are respectively side and plan views of the display stand. Referring to the drawings the display stand has a square base 10 which is secured vertical tubular post 11. Each shelf unit has a back wall 16, top and bottom walls 17a and two side walls 17b, 1 7c to which are riveted the turned-down ends of a series of vertically spaced shelves 18. Hooked strip elements 19 are secured to the back wall of each unit and are hooked on to the elements 14 to mount the unit on the supports. The units each have one corresponding side wall 17b disposed adjacent the rear surface of the back wall 16 of the next adjacent unit 15 in one direction about the post, as shown. Rivets 20 may be used to secure stiff washers 21 to the back face of each unit adjacent its upper end, so that the washers back removable cards 22 which have slotted bottom edges for engaging the rivets. A flanged plate 24 similar to the plates 12 is mounted on the post above the units and has secured to its flanges four cards or frames 25 to receive cards for advertising matter. As shown, one side of each of the cards or frames 25 projects laterally beyond the plate 24. The products to be displayed are placed on the shelves of the units. WHAT WE CLAIM IS:

1. A display stand comprising a base carrying a central vertical post, a support means mounted for rotation about the post, and a plurality of outwardly facing shelf units which are mounted on the. support means and disposed about the post and each of which is removable from the support means as a unit independently of the other unit or units, each shelf unit having two upright side members and a plurality of vertically spaced shelves secured at their ends to the respective side members.

3. A display stand as claimed in cIaim 2, wherein one side member of each shelf unit is disposed adjacent the rear face of the back wall of the next adjacent unit in one and the same direction about the post.

4. A display stand as claimed in claim 2 or claim 3, wherein the upper end of the post carries a plurality of outwardly-facing cards or frames for respective cards, the number of cards or frames being equal to the number of shelf units.

5. A display stand as claimed in claim 4, wherein one lateral edge of each card or frame is disposed adjacent the radially-inner face of the next adjacent card or frame in one and the same direction about the post.

6. A display stand as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the number of shelf units is four.

7. A display stand substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustra cd in the accompanying drawings.
