Description

(54) IMPROVEMENTS IN CLIPS FOR SUSPENDING PIPES (71) We NELSON UNIT LIMITED of Victoria Works, Oxford Road, Dukinfield, County of Chester, a British Company, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:- This invention relates to improvements in suspension devices for the suspension of overhead pipes and is an improvement in or modification of the invention described and claimed in our Prior Patent Specification No. 1,543,508.
The specification of No. 1,543,508 describes and claims a suspension device for the suspension of overhead pipes, comprising a round bar as therein described having a substantially semi circular central portion to recieve the pipe, the end portions of the bar converging tangentially therefrom and being then bent inwardly and formed with eyelets at each end lying in parallel planes to receive a suspension bolt and clamped together by a nut on the bolt, the device providing a suspension device having a substantially line contact with the pipe.
The pipe engaging part of the device described and claimed in the Parent Specification operates most satisfactorily but unless it is adequately secured, the anchorage of the suspension bolt to an overhead girder or the like is liable to fail if the device is lifted upwards and thereby released from the girder or the like.
The object of the invention is to provide for adequately securing the suspension bolt to a girder.
According to the invention there is provided a suspension device as claimed in Claim 1 of U.K. Patent Specification No.
1,543,508 wherein the upper end of the suspension bolt passes through holes in a U shaped bracket, one leg of which bracket is intended to lie against the under surface of a flange of a girder, and the other leg of which is bent towards the first leg and is intended to engage the top surface of said flange of the girder.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings: Fig. 1 is a partly diagrammatic side elevation of the pipe suspension device in position.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a bracket mounted on a girder A.
Fig. 3 is a plan of Fig. 2.
Figs. 4 & 5 are a side elevation of two further forms.
The suspension device A, for overhead pipes, is as described in the parent specifition No. 1,543,508. The lower end of the suspension rod 1 passes through the eyelets 3 and is clamped thereto by nuts 4. The upper end of the suspension rod 1 passes through eyelets 6 in a U shaped bracket 5 one leg 5a of which extends horizontally under a girder B.
The other leg 5b of the bracket 5 is bent downwards to engage behind an upturned flange of the girder B.
The suspension rod 1 is secured by nuts 7 to the bracket 5.
Fig. 4 shows a form of the bracket 5 with an upturned end on the leg 5a engaging behind the web of the girder B and, Fig. 5 shows a form in which the upturned leg Sc engages behind the flange of an I girder.
The device A is thus securely affixed to the girder and cannot be inadvertently removed therefrom.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. A suspension device for overhead pipes, as claimed in Claim 1 of U.K. Patent Specification No. 1,543,508, wherein the upper end of the suspension bolt passes through holes in a U shaped bracket, one leg of which bracket is intended to lie against the under surface of a flange of a girder, and the other leg of which is bent towards the first leg and is intended to engage the top surface of said flange of the girder.
2. A suspension device, for the suspension
