Abstract

The cast pressure vessel has a cast vessel body (1) of circular cross-section, which has on its inside a steel lining (2) with stabilisation elements (3, 4) which point inwards and extend longitudinally and/or transversely. The steel lining (2) bears directly or via a thermally conductive filling compound (5) in a self-closed fashion against the inner wall of the cast vessel body (1). In order to permit an approximately optimum mode of operation for hot operation, the cast vessel body (1) is surrounded outside by a thermal insulation (7, 8). The residual heat transferred to the outside is dissipated via a cooling system, e.g. tubes through which water flows. The steel lining (2) and the cast vessel body (1) are held together by means of a circumferential clamping system (6). The cast pressure vessel is suitable for chemical and nuclear reactors and as a gas storage tank and water storage tank. <IMAGE>

Description

(54) HOT-WORKING CAST PRESSURE VESSEL (71) We, L & C STEINMULLER GmbH, A German Company, of 527 Gummersback 1, Germany, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: The invention relates to a pressure vessel comprising a cast body of substantially circular cross-section fitted with an internal steel lining.
Hitherto, pressure vessels having a cast body have been designed for coldworking operation.
In such cast pressure vessels the steel lining is connected with the cast body of the pressure vessel by anchoring elements. The free space remaining as a rule between the steel lining and the cast body of the pressure vessel is filled with a filling composition. The steel lining itself is smooth.
Considerable problems arise in the transition from a cold to a hot-working manner of operation, so that the designs conceived hitherto for cold-working cast pressure vessels are not generally usable for hot-working.
The ability of a cast pressure vessel to operate under hotworking conditions depends essentially on its structure. Therefore a cast pressure vessel with circular cross-section and internal steel lining has already been proposed in which the steel lining is provided with internally situated longitudinally and/or transversely extending stabilising elements and engages in a shape-locking manner against the inner wall of the cast pressure vessel either directly or indirectly through a filling composition with or without thermal expansion, and the free space between the stabilising elements is optionally filled with a composition with or without thermal expansion. While this proposed cast pressure vessel can be operated under hot-working conditions, it does not yet fulfil the optimum manner of operation which is to be sought in designs of this kind.
Therefore the present invention has faced the problem of further improving the design of a hot-working cast pressure vessel as described above, so that a nearly optimum manner of operation is possible.
According to the invention there is provided a pressure vessel suitable for hot-working, comprising a cast body of substantially circular cross-section fitted with an internal steel lining which bears directly against the inside wall of the cast body or against a layei of filling composition having good thermal com- ductivity on the inside wall of the cast body, the lining being provided on the inside with stabilizing elements which extend longitudinally and/or transversely of the vessel, wherein the cast body is provided externally with thermal insulation and with a circumferential clamping system which holds together the assemblage of the cast body and the steel lining, the clamping system being thermally insulated from the cast body e.g. by said thermal insulation so that it remains substantially colder than the cast body during operation of the vessel.
The advantage which is achieved with the invention consists in that the steel lining has the same temperature as the cast body of the pressure vessel. Thus the forces required to prevent thermal expansions by reason of temperature differences between the steel lining and cast body are substantially reduced.
The invention is described below by various embodiments with reference to the Figures represented in the drawings, wherein: Figure 1 shows a first possible embodiment of the invention in which the steel lining engages against the cast body of the pressure vessel, Figure 2 shows a further embodiment of the invention in which the engagement between the steel lining and the cast body of the pressure vessel is achieved through a thermally conductive filling composition, and Figure 3 shows another embodiment of the invention in which as well as longitudinally extending stabilising elements there are also used transversely extending elements, the transversely extending elements being pressed into the body.
The cast body of the pressure vessel is designated by 1 and the steel lining by 2 in the Figures. The steel lining carries inwardly directed stabilising elements 3 which all extend longitudinally in Figure 1 and 2. Only in one possible embodiment of the invention in Figure 3 are transversely extending stabilising elements 4 used as well as the longitudinally extending elements. The cast body is provided externally with thermal insulation 7, and the assemblage of steel lining, filling composition and cast body is circumferentially held with clamping elements 6; The insulation 7 is disposed between the cast body and the clamping elements 6 so that the clamping elements 6 are thennally insulated from the cast body and thereby remain substantially colder than the cast body during operation of the vessel.
In Figure 1 the steel lining bears directly against the cast body of the pressure vessel.
In the embodiment according to Figure 2 the steel lining bears against a filling composition 5 which apart from its filling character also has good thermal conduction properties. The form of the stabilising element 3 is merely diagrammatically disclosed in the embodiments. By way of example flat iron members, T-members or similar sections with a stablising effect can be utilised.
To complete the disclosure it should be pointed out that the stabilising elements 3 can also be produced by a deliberate deformation of the steel lining itself, longitudinally and/or transversely extending corrugations being especially in mind here.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS:- 1. A pressure vessel suitable for hot-working comprising a cast body of substantially circular cross-section fitted with an internal steel lining which bears directly against the inside wall of the cast body or against a layer of filling composition having good thermal conductivity on the inside wall of the cast body, the lining being provided on the inside with stabilising elements which extend longitudinally and/or transversely of the vessel, wherein the cast body is provided externally with thermal insulation and with a circumferntial clamping system which holds together the assemblage of the cast body and the steel lining, the clamping system being thermally insulated from the cast body by said thermal insulation so that it remains substantially colder than the cast body during operation of the vessel.
2. A pressure vessel suitable for hot-working, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to any of the Figures of the accompanying drawings.

Claims (2)

The cast body is provided externally with thermal insulation 7, and the assemblage of steel lining, filling composition and cast body is circumferentially held with clamping elements 6; The insulation 7 is disposed between the cast body and the clamping elements 6 so that the clamping elements 6 are thennally insulated from the cast body and thereby remain substantially colder than the cast body during operation of the vessel. In Figure 1 the steel lining bears directly against the cast body of the pressure vessel. In the embodiment according to Figure 2 the steel lining bears against a filling composition 5 which apart from its filling character also has good thermal conduction properties. The form of the stabilising element 3 is merely diagrammatically disclosed in the embodiments. By way of example flat iron members, T-members or similar sections with a stablising effect can be utilised. To complete the disclosure it should be pointed out that the stabilising elements 3 can also be produced by a deliberate deformation of the steel lining itself, longitudinally and/or transversely extending corrugations being especially in mind here. 2. A pressure vessel suitable for hot-working, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to any of the Figures of the accompanying drawings.
