Description

(54) IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO CONTAINERS (71) We, MONO - CONSTRUCTION LIMITED, a British Company of Moor Lane South, Ravenfield, Rotherham, S65 4QR, do hereby declare the invention for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: This invention relates to containers and is particularly concerned with a disposable container for plastic refractory materials such as cements, ramming mixes and the like.
Hitherto, refractory cements and the like have been pre-packaged in drums or in plastic buckets. With either form of prepackaging it is frequently the case that once the seal has been broken the contents have not been used in total and as a result great care has had to be exhibited in the resealing of the container for otherwise the remaining cement or the like has hardened and has had to be thrown away. In addition, neither of the above forms of container are readily disposable after the contents have been removed. A still further disadvantage of the known constructions is that the cement or the like must be removed from the container and placed in a separate receptacle such as a pan from where an operative can take the cement or the like, e.g. with a conventional trowel, and place it in its desired location. This introduces the further need to wash the pan thoroughly after use.
According to the present invention a disposable container comprises a body of a readily destructable material, an inlet to the interior of the body closable by a detachable lid of a readily destructable material, an internal plastics liner to the container whereby water - containing refractory material can be held within the container and handle means formed on the body.
Thus, with the container formed of a readily destructable material such as cardboard or corrugated board and dimensioned to hold a convenient quantity of plastic refractory material, the container can be carried by the handle means to any desired location when the container can be opened and the internal plastics liner moved to expose the refractory material. The plastic refractory material is then accessible to the operative, and the container adequately serves the purpose of a pan. At the end of a particular operation, should any plastic refractory material remain in the container it can be simply and effectively re-sealed by replacing the internal plastics liner and closing the opening to the container. The sealed container efficiently prevents drying out of the plastic refractory material for a considerable period of time. The plastics liner may be of sheet polythene adapted for folding over the refractory material and/or a plastics coated pad overlying the refractory.
The handle means may be hand grips in the form of slots in the end walls of the container.
Because of the weight of the plastic refractory material, it is preferred that strengthening members are provided within the container. Thus strengthening wall liners and a base plate can be provided.
One embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which : - Figure 1 is a perspective view of a disposable container in accordance with the invention; and Figure 2 is a sectional side elevation of the container of Figure 1.
In the drawings, a disposable container 1 is formed by a body part 2 of a readily destructable material such as corrugated cardboard dimensioned to hold a convenient quantity of refractory material 3.
The body part 2 is provided with a lining 4, of, e.g. plastics coated cardboard which is not only water containing but also adds considerable strength to the body portion.
Overlying the refractory material is a plastics coated pad 5. The body portion 2 is provided with a removable lid 6 which fits over the body portion 2. The body portion 2 and the lid 6 are provided with co-operating handle holes 7, 8 respectively by which the whole assembly can be transported by hand.
Thus, with the disposable container 1 brought to a location where refractory material is required, the lid 6 and the pad 5 are removed and wfien the refractory material 3 can be removed, e.g. by a trowel as shown. If all the material is used, the container 1 can simply be thrown away.
If refractory material remains in the container, the pad 5 and the lid 6 can be replaced, effectively sealing the container, and when the refractory material can be stored for subsequent use for considerable periods of time.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. A disposable container comprising a body of a readily destructable material, an inlet to the interior of the body closable by a detachable lid of a readily destructable material, an internal plastics liner to the container whereby a water-containing refractory material can be held within the container, and handle means formed on the body.
2. A disposable container as in Claim 1, wherein the container and lid are formed of cardboard or corrugated board.
3. A disposable container as in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein the plastics liner is sheet plastics material with portions adapted for folding over the refractory material.
4. A disposable container as in any of Claims 1 to 3, wherein the plastics liner is plastics coated cardboard lining the sides and bottom of the container, with a plastics coated pad to overlie the refractory material.
5. A disposable container as in any of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the handle means are hand grips in the form of slots in the end walls of the container.
6. A disposable container substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Claims (6)

**WARNING** start of CLMS field may overlap end of DESC **. WHAT WE CLAIM IS:
