Description

(54) IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO SNAP-OUT SET ASSEMBLIES (71) We, MOORE PARAGON UK LIMI TED formerly Lanson Paragon Limited, a British company of 75/79 Southward Street, London, SE1 OHY, do hereby declare this invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: This invention has reference to snap out set assemblies.
Such snap out assemblies consist of a plurality of record parts with an interleaved transfer sheet part between each pair of record parts.
The parts of the assemblies are secured together for example by a line af adhesive between adjacent record parts at the head of each part to forn; a stub and the transfer sheets are likewise secured to the record parts within the stub and the ends of the record parts remote from the stub extend beyond the transfer sheet parts. A transverse line of tear off perforations is formed in each record part adjacent the stub.
Such assemblies are used for typewriter and and hand written recording applications but if they are to be despatched subsequently an envelope has to be separately addressed.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved snap out assembly.
It is another object of the invention to provide a snap out set assembly which is capable of receiving and locating an envelope in such a manner that the envelope can be addresses at the same time as an address is applied to the snap out assembly.
According to the present invention a snap out manifolding set assembly comprises a plurality of record sheets with an interleaved transfer sheet between each pair of record sheets with the record sheets and the transfer sheets secured together adjacent one margin of the assembly and wherein an additional sheet of transfer material is interposed underneath one of the record sheets and an envelope is positioned on the underside of the additional sheet of transfer material whereby an address inprinted on the uppermost record web is reproduced on the envelope.
A snap out assembly in accordance with the present invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein: Fig. 1 is a plan view of a snap out set assembly with sheets cut away and folded back, Fig. 2 is a view on the line II to II of Fig. 1, and, Fig. 3 is a view of a modification similar to Fig. 2.
Referring to Fig. 1 of the drawings there is shown a snap out set assembly 1 comprising a plurality (as shown there are four) of aligned record sheets 2 with aligned carbon paper sheets 3 interleaved between respective record paper sheets. Each carbon paper sheet is joined to the paper record sheet immediately above it by a line of adhesive 4 at the leading edge of the transfer sheet and spaced a short distance from the leading outer edge of the overlapping record sheet. The respective record sheets are joined to the next record sheets above and/or below by lines of adhesive 5. These lines of adhesive are located beyond the end of the outer leading edge of the carbon paper sheets.
The trailing outer end of each record sheet extends beyond the trailing outer end of the respective carbon paper sheets 3 and a stub perforation 6 is formed transversely of each record sheet containing the lines of adhesive within the stub.
In accordance with the usual practice in the use of snap out sets, information and other data is inserted on the snap out set by typing or hand writing in the usual way and when it is required to detach the record sheets from the carbon sheets and stub a snap out operation is effected to break the stub perforations 6 and pull the record paper sheets away from the interleaved carbon paper sheets 3. An area 12 is included adjacent the stub perforation 6 on the uppermost record sheet to receive the name and address of the set addressee.
In accordance with the present invention there is also included between the uppermost paper sheet and the uppermost carbon paper sheet an additional sheet 7 of carbon paper with its coated face downward towards the uppermost carbon paper sheet face. This sheet 7 of carbon paper is secured to the rear face of the record sheet next above it by lines of adhesive 8 and has a depth less than the depth of the outer transfer sheets and extending as far as the name and address printing position on an envelope (as shown at 9) to cover the address position. When it is required to insert an address in an envelope, the envelope is inserted or has already been inserted during assembly of the set, (as shown at 9) in aligned registration with the name and address area 12, so that when the address is applied to the area 12 of the snap out set, the address will also be inserted on the envelope by virtue of the transfer property of the sheet 7. The envelope can be detached or extracted before or after the snap oust separation and the necessary form inserted into the envelope for despatch.
Referring to the modification shown in Fig.
3 this is a similar construction to that shown in Figs. 1 & 2 except that the additional sheet of carbon paper 7 of less depth than the sheet of carbon paper 3 is formed with an uncoated selvedge. In this case a single line of adhesive 10 joins the additional sheet of carbon paper to the record sheet above it and also secures the underlying carbon paper sheet to it. The operation of the set is the same as that described in Figs. 1 & 2.
It will be apparent that transfer sheets other than carbon paper transfer sheets may be used within the snap out set assemblies of the present invention.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. A snap out manifolding set comprising a plurality of record sheets with an interleaved transfer sheet between each pair of record sheets with the record sheets and transfer sheets secured together adjacent one margin of the assembly and wherein an additional sheet of transfer material is interposed underneath one of the record sheets and an envelope is positioned on the underside of the additional sheet of transfer material whereby an address imprinted on the uppermost record sheet is reproduced on the envelope.
2. A snap out assembly according to claim 1 wherein at least the uppermost record sheet includes a name and address receiving area so located that the envelope is positioned in aligned registration with this name and address receiving area.
3. A snap out set assembly according to claims 1 or 2 wherein the additional sheet of transfer material has a depth less than the depth of the other transfer sheets but covers the name and address position.
4. A snap out set assembly according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the additional transfer sheet is positioned between the uppermost record sheet and the uppermost transfer sheet.
5. A snap out assembly according to any one of the preceding claims wherein a single line of adhesive joins the additional transfer sheet to the record sheet above it and secures the underlying transfer sheet to it.
6. A snap out assembly constructed substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
