Description
(54) CONFECTIONERY PACKAGE
(71) We, TREBOR LIMITED, a British Company of Trebor House, Woodford
Green, Essex 1G8 8EX, do hereby declare the invention for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:
The present invention relates to a confectionery package particularly, but not solely, for unwrapped sweetmeats.
According to the present invention there is provided a confectionery package comprising a planar base board and attached to the base a transparent plastics moulding which has side walls upstanding from the base board and forming a plurality of interconnected channels permanently closed above by the top of the moulding which is integral with the side walls and permanently covered below by the board so that the channels form interconnecting and adjacent tunnels defining a ortuous path or paths, said package containing items of confectionery whereby a game involving movement of items of confectionery along these tunnels can be played.
A constructional embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Figures 1 and 2 show perspective views of a confectionery package according to the present invention.
The package comprises a plannar base board 1 with a suitable lacquer coating applied to its upper surface and a transparent plastics moulding 2 vacuum formed to provide a series of interconnected channels.
An exit apertur 3 is provided in the base board 1.
The moulding has side walls 5 upstanding from the base board and forming a plurality of interconnected channels 6 permanently closed above by the top 7 of the moulding which is integral with the side walls 5 and permanently covered below by the board 1.
The finished construction consists of the plastics moulding permanently sealed to the uppermost surface of the board so that the channels in the mouldings form tunnels on which the board represents the base. Before the joining process occurs, sweets are placed inside the package so that after joining the sweets are free to move along these tunnels.
The sweets by the nature of their shape, i.e. smooth surfaces and by the construction of the finished package are free to move inside the package within the constraints of the package's physical design.
The size of the board and the plastics moulding can vary but the size of the plastics moulding does not exceed that of the board.
The pattern formation in the plastic forming can vary both in design and shape and in channel width and thickness.
In use the confectionery package is sold complete with articles of confectionery disposed within these tunnels and with the plannar board acting as a base. A game can be played by manipulating the sweet or sweets which can be viewed through the transparent moulding 2. A game can also be played by manipulating the sweets along the surface of the planar board through the tunnels to an ultimate pre-determined exit in either the board, the plastic moulding, or both. For example, the unopened package can be decorated and apertured to simulate a golf course, a maze or a form of bagatelle.
To obtain the sweets other than through a pre-determined aperture of part of a game, the package will have to be destroyed in order to remove the confectionery contained within.
It will be apparent that the package as claimed in Claim 2 wherein the package contains a plurality of sweetmeats in a compartment and, without destroying the package, the sweetmeats can only be removed from the package through an exit aperture by guiding the sweetmeans along the correct tunnels in the form of a maze from the compartment to the aperture.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS:
1. A confectionery package comprising a planar base board and attached to the base a transparent plastics moulding which has side walls upstanding from the base board and forming a plurality of interconnected channels permanently closed above by the top of the moulding which is integral with the side walls and permanently covered below by the board so that the channels form interconnecting and adjacent tunnels defining a tortuous path or paths, said package containing items of confectionery whereby a game involving movement of said items of confectionery along these tunnels can be played.
2. A package as claimed in claim 1, wherein the base board and/or moulding have one or more exit apertures therein.
3. A package as claimed in claim 2 wherein the package contains a plurality of sweetmeats in a compartment and, without destroying the package, the sweetmeats can only be removed from the package through an exit aperture by guiding the sweetmeats along the correct tunnels in the form of a maze from the compartment to the aperture.
4. A package substantially as described with reference to and as illustrated by the accompanying drawing.

Claims (4)
