Abstract

Moulds; electrodes, supporting; moving; connections; electrolytes, treating non-chemically.- Copper cable tubes and other articles are made by deposition in a vat having a central partition and rotary devices for rapidly circulating the electrolyte, a part of which is continuously passed through a filter and returned, the cathode matrices being oscillated vertically and horizontally. As shown, each circulating device consists of vertical blades f joined at their ends by rings g and carried by a central spider h on a vertical shaft. In a deep vat the rings g may also be connected to the shaft. The device is placed in a chamber c having a large hole k below and smaller holes l above for the entry of electrolyte, the longitudinal and a cross-partition being arranged so that the liquid is drawn from one side of the longitudinal partition at each end of the vat, and delivered through an opening m to the other side of the partition. Electrolyte is also withdrawn from one of the chambers c, filtered by means of a blanket and returned to the other chamber c. On each side of the partition is a carrier bar r, having notches for square portions of the cathode stems p, which are clamped by means of nuts s on the stems. Near each end of the vat is a shaft supporting the carrier bars r by means of cranks; the two shafts may revolve at different rates. Flexible conductors z connect the cathode stems to overhead bus-bars y on either side of a wooden rail b<1> supported by uprights on the partition. Anodes are hung on either side of the cathodes by flat hooks from bus-bars.
