Description
(54) ATTACHMENT DEVICE FOR A STRAP
(71) We, RUD - KETTENFABRIK
RIEGER & DIETZ GMBH & CO., a Company organised under the laws of the Federal
Republic of Germany, of 7080 Aalen 1,
Federal Republic of Germany, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be par ticularly described in and by the following statement: The invention relates to an attachment device for a strap, with an oval connecting loop for the strap, made by bending a length of roundsection bar, and an attachment tongue which is wrapped around the arm of the loop near the two ends of the bar, so as to form folded-over tongue portions through which penetrates a hole for an attachment screw.
The intention in the invention is to provide an attachment device of this general kind, but which combines simplicity in construction and low cost of manufacture with great mechanical strength.
Accordingly, the present invention provides an atachment device for a strap, with an oval connecting loop for the strap, made by bending a length of round-section bar, and an attachment tongue which is wrapped around the arm of the loop near the two ends of the bar so as to form two folded-over tongue portions through which penetrates a hole for an attachment screw, characterised in that each of the two ends of the bar, which are not attached to each other, has at least one locking recess receiving a projection pressed out from the tongue.
The attachment device of the present invention has the advantage that, due to engagement between the locking recesses in the arm ends of the bar material and the projections pressed out from the tongue, the two ends of the bar are firmly connected together and cannot be separated even by large and abruptly applied loads.
It has been found particularly advantageous if each arm bend has two locking recesses in opposite side surfaces of the bar. This still further increases the holding power of the lock.
The locking recesses can be made by deforming the bar material, in particular by cold pressing, and no material is lost. The press operation produces bulges projecting on either side from the bar material of the connecting loop, parallel with the floor of the locking recess.
As the wrapped-around attachment tongue fully encloses the arm ends and there are no cut-away openings in the locking region, the device has great mechanical strength.
For certain applications the floor of each locking recess forms an angle with the plane containing the axes of the two arms of the connecting loop.
The two-folded portions of the attachment tongue are preferably welded together.
The invention will now be described in greater detail on the basis of the three examples represented in the drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of an attachment device for a strap;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section taken in the plane II--II of Figure 1;
Figure 3 shows the ends of the connecting loop;
Figure 4 corresponds to Figure 3, but shows a variant;
Figure 5 is a plan view of a second version of the attachment device;
Figure 6 is a longitudinal section taken in the plane VI-VI of Figure 5;
Figure 7 shows the ends of the connecting loop in the version of Figures 5 and 6;
Figure 8 is a plan view of a third version;
Figure 9 is a longitudinal section taken in the plane IX-IX of Figure 8; and
Figure 10 shows the ends of the connecting loop in the version of Figures 8 and 9.
In Figure 1 a connecting loop 11, formed by bending round-section rod material, has a continuous arm 12 and an interrupted arm 13.
Wrapped around the continuous arm 12 is a strap 14, and wrapped around the two ends 13, 16 of the interrupted arm is an attachment tongue 17, so that there are formed two tongue plates 18, 19, which are spot-welded together at three points 20. A drilled hole 21, to take an attachmment screw, penetrates through the two plates.
Where the tongue 17 is wrapped around the ends 15, 16 of the interrupted arm of the connecting loop, each arm has a locking recess 22, best shown in Figure 3, into which penetrates a pressed-out projection of the attachment tongue 17. In figure 3 each arm has only one recess, but if desired each arm end can have two recesses, preferably staggered in position along the arm end, as shown in
Figure 4.
In the example of Figures 5 to 7 the locking recesses are formed by cold pressing, which squeezes the bar material so that outward bulges 23 are formed. In figures 1 to 4 and 5 to 7, the same reference numbers indicate the same parts of the device and the same applies to Figures 8 to 10.
In the examples shown in Figures 8 to 10, the floors 24 of the locking recesses 22 form an acute angle with the plane containing the axes of the arms 12, 13 of the connecting loop 11. This arrangement is preferred where the suap is for connection to a wall or the like and it is desired to maintain a gap between the strap 24 and the wall.
The attachment device of the invention is simple to manufacture and the manner of anchoring the attachment tongue to the connecting loop ensures that these two parts remain reliably and positively locked together. Even under high loads the arm ends 15, 16 cannot be wrenched out of the attachment tongue.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS:- 1. An attachment device for a strap, with an oval connecting loop for the strap, made by bending a length of round-section bar, and an attachment tongue which is wrapped around the arm of the loop near the two ends of the bar so as to form two folded-over tongue portions through which penetrates a hole for an attachment screw, characterised in that each of the two ends of the bar, which are not attached to each other, has at least one locking recess receiving a projection pressed out from the tongue.
2. An attachment device according to claim 1, characterised in that each arm end has two locking recesses in opposite side surfaces of the bar.
3. An attachment device according to claims 1 or 2, characterised in that each end of the loop arm around which the tongue is wrapped has bulges squeezed out sidways by the pressing operation, the bulges projecting on either side from the bar material of the connecting loop parallel with the floor of the locking recess.
4. An attachment device according to one of the claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the wrapped-around attachment tongue fully encloses the arm ends.
5. An attachment device according to one of the claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the floor of each locking recess forms an acute angle with the plane containing the axes of the two arms of the connecting loop.
6. An attachment device according to one of the claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the two folded-over tongue plates of the attachment tongue are welded together.
7. An attachment device for connection at the end of a strap, the device comprising in combination a loop and a tongue constructed and arranged substantially as described with reference to any of the accompanying drawings.
