Abstract

155,310. Jones, J. S. Nov. 12, 1919. Drilling buttons. - A multiple-spindle drilling- machine for buttons or the like comprises a standard with a slide carrying a number of rotary drill spindles and an intermittently-rotated blank carrier with blankgripping devices thereon. The pedestal A carries the slide B which carries the drill spindle C rotated through gearing from a pulley D. The slide B is reciprocated from the main cam shaft F through a lever G, and the drill spindles are pressed to the work by springs C<2>. The rotary carrier is formed of two parts H<1>, H<2> with a space between to hold the chuck-operating gear k<4>, Fig. 5, acturated from a fixed central conical cam J to cause closing of the chuck jaws k. The carrier is intermittently rotated by pawl and ratchet gear from a slide reciprocated by a crank on the main shaft, and is locked by a lever-actuated stop m which engages apertures h in the rim of the carrier. The buttons or blanks are placed on plungers P in the table, and these plungers are adapted to be raised in turn to eject the finished blank by a lever R, Fig. 8, actuated bv a cam on the return stroke of the turret rotating mechanism, and a cam-actuated pusher rod s pushes the blank clear of the carrier.
