Abstract
Solution-annealed and quenched austenitic steels suffer, as a result of stretching or straightening, a reduction in the elastic limit in the compression test with a simultaneous rise of the elastic limit in the tensile test (B). Due to an annealing treatment at temperatures below the stress relief-annealing temperature in the region of from 400 to 650 DEG C, the difference of the elastic limits in the tensile and compressive tests (Bauschinger effect) is admittedly not eliminated, but the steel shows elastic limit (C) values in the compression direction which are better than in the solution-annealed initial state (A). <IMAGE>
