Abstract

Dielectric fluids are described which contain a relatively large quantity of a fluid polyorganosiloxane and a smaller quantity of a nitro-substituted organic compound which is soluble in the siloxane. This nitro-substituted compound may be a suitable aromatic, aliphatic, cycloaliphatic compound, or a mixture of two or more such compounds. Furthermore, electrical devices, for example transformers or capacitors, are described which contain these dielectric fluids. The dielectric fluids described here do not lead to environmental pollution, which the use of polychlorinated diphenyl compounds results in. In comparison with dielectric fluids based on siloxane, the fluids described here have the advantage that their corona starter voltage and their corona end voltage are high, and the two values are close together.
