Abstract

Specified for the purpose of measuring the optical attenuation in optical fibres is a measuring device whose elements are accommodated in a housing provided with two optical fibre connectors. The most important of the elements mentioned are a laser with its driver circuit, a photodetector and a display instrument, both together with the electronic circuits. Calibrating the measuring device is performed by means of a short connecting piece of the same type of optical fibre as the fibre to be measured. After calibration, the connecting piece is replaced by the fibre to be measured and the new pointer reading of the display instrument is read off. <IMAGE>
