Abstract

1537463 Liquid crystal compositions THOMSON-CSF 4 April 1977 [6 April 1976 7 July 1976] 14200/77 Heading C4X [Also in Division C2] A liquid crystal composition having a high negative dielectric anisotropy comprises (a) a mixture of at least two compounds of the general formula wherein R is Br, CN or NO 2 ; R 1 is (C 1 -C 10 ) alkyl or alkoxy and R 2 is (C 1 -C 10 ) alkyl; or (b) a mixture of at least one compound of the above formula together with a nematic liquid crystal compound of the formula wherein R 3 and R 4 are both (C 1 -C 10 ) alkyl. Examples are given of mixtures which consist of 10% by wt. of a compound of Formula I above and 90% by wt. of a compound of Formula II above. The compositions may be used in dynamic scattering electro-optic display devices.
