Abstract

1535741 Converting N I INST POSTOYAN TOKA 3 Dec 1975 49726/75 Heading H2F In a frequency converter having at least one rectifier 5 feeding at least one inverter 6 an impedance 10 is connected between each rectifier output terminal and earth and comprises a resistor to provide a D.C. path to earth and a capacitor to damp spurious oscillations. As shown, a plurality of six- or twelve-phase bridge rectifiers 5 are connected alternately in series with bridge inverters 6 in a D.C. circuit 7 having a current limiting inductor 8. An impedance 10 is connected between each output terminal of each rectifier 5 to earth and may consist of parallel or series/parallel arrangements of resistance and capacitance. The rectifiers 5 are powered from a polyphase circuit 2 via transformers 3 whilst the inverters 6 feed a polyphase circuit 1 of differing frequency via transformers 4. In Fig. 2 (not shown) a first station comprises a pair of three-phase bridge rectifiers in series being respectively supplied from network I via star/delta transformers, the rectifiers feeding a similar arrangement of inverters using valves or thyristors, coupled by star/delta transformers to network 2. The D.C. sides of the converters are balanced to earth by means of four impedances.
