Abstract

The exhaust turbocharger comprises an exhaust turbine and a supercharging blower which is driven by this and has a connecting line (16) between the intake line (3) and the pressure line (5). A blow-off valve (17), actuated as a function of the intake pipe vacuum of the internal combustion engine (8), is arranged in the connecting line. By bypassing the impeller a fall in the speed of the latter at low engine output, for example in overrun conditions of a motor vehicle, can be avoided so that a rapid engine response is obtained upon accelerating. The blow-off valve (17) and the line (16) are arranged in the housing (19) of the supercharging blower. It is thereby possible to design the exhaust turbocharger with the blow-off valve so that it is especially compact and easy to assemble. <IMAGE>
