Abstract
1535576 Changing jib length on tower cranes LINDEN-ALIMAK AB 29 Oct 1976 [29 Oct 1975] 45154/76 Headings B8H and B8B A carrying cradle having the form of a threearmed lever frame 2, 3, 4 with a counterweight 1 is used in a method of mounting or dismounting jib sections on a tower crane (8), Fig. 5 (not shown). The arm 4 has lifting lugs 7 and the arms 2, 3 are hinged to the arm 4, being stayed in position by ropes 5, 6. When lifted by the crane trolley, Fig. 8, the counterweight 1 holds arm 2 substantially vertical so that the end of arm 4 can be positioned high enough for a loop 30 to be coupled between the arm 4 and the jib section to be dismounted. Continued raising of the cradle brings arm 3 into contact with the jib where it is rotatably attached by a loop (31), Fig. 9 (not shown). Further raising of the cradle causes it to pivot about the end of arm 3 and take the weight of the section to be removed. The section can now be detached from the rest of the jib and lowered to the ground after loop 31 has been removed. During this lowering action the cradle assumes a balanced position with the section above the level of the counterweight 1 so that the counterweight 1 reaches the ground first, the cradle then pivoting about the counterweight to deposit the section on the ground, Figs. 11, 12 (not shown). Jib sections may be added to the jib by effectively reversing the above steps.
