1535510 Bale sledges DONNERFIELD Ltd 27 Oct 1975 [21 Dec 1974 25 Feb 1975] 55343/74 and 7744/75 Heading B5F A bale sled comprises a plurality of bale compartments 41, 42, 43, 44, guides 10, 11, 12 divertable by a bale for filling the compartments in succession, and bale retaining means 16 releasable when all of the compartments are full. As shown the sled has a shoot 3 for receiving bales from a baling machine, but the front of the shoot may be lower for picking-up from the ground. Bales are received with their longer sides vertical and if required may be turned through 90 degrees into this position by a camming surface on a shoot at the front of the sled. Four or five compartments have pivoted guides biased into positions in which their heel portions 13, 14, 15 extend into the compartments. A first bale held in the shoot 3 by a drop arm 51 is released by the arrival of a second. The first is directed by the guide 10 into compartment 41 where it is joined by a second which remaining in contact with the heel 13, deflects the guide 10 into the brokenline position in which it closes compartment 41. Guide 11 now directs the third and fourth bales into compartment 42 when it is pivoted by the fourth bale to close-off compartment 42 and open compartment 43. After this is filled the first bale to enter compartment 44 raises an arm 22 which is tied 21 to a lever 17 allowing the lever to fall to the broken-line position. The lever 17 is tied 18 to a catch 19 holding a pivoted gate 16 at the rear of the compartments, the catch being released by contact between the lever 17 and the second bale in the last compartment. Instead of operating the guides by means of heels they may be operated by an arm-and-lever system similar to that for the gate 16, particularly if a floor raises the bales off the ground. The sled may slide or run on wheels 4, 5, 6. Reference has been directed in pursuance of Section 9 subsection (1) of the Patents Act 1949 to patent no. 1,402,589.
