Abstract

1532810 Automatic level control J W WALKER AND J P MAGILL 18 Dec 1975 51787/75 Heading G1A An apparatus for maintaining evaporation loss has an evaporimeter containing a liquid, first and second sensors positioned at different levels and connected to an electric circuit having means for controlling a refilling means and for indicating levels of the liquid. In the evaporimeter shown the first and second, i.e. zero set level, photo-resistors are mounted aligned with lensed end-point source lamps on a member displaceable in a vertical slot. The evaporimeter is initially filled to the zero line with distilled water which concentrates light on each photo-resistor. As water evaporates, from the cup which is filled with glass balls on a level with the zero line and connected by a flexible U-tube to the transparent scaled part of the vessel, the level falls so that one and then both photo-resistors receive less light. Potentiometer VR 1 , is set so that the voltage on the inverting input of amplifier A, is lower than its non-inverting input so that its output goes positive, so that transistor T4 conducts giving a collector potential of TTL'O'. The potentiometer VR 2 is set so that the voltage on the inverting input of amplifier A 2 is the higher, so that the output of transistor T 5 will be 'I'. For the RS bistable in the initial condition the outputs of gates G 1 and G 2 are 1 and 0 respectively, so that the zero indication lamp lights. As the level drops below the first photo-resistor transistor T 4 output rises to 1 and when it drops below the second photo-resistor, transistor T 5 output drops to 0, whereupon the RS bistable changes so that the outputs of gates G 1 and G 2 are 0 and 1, so that the refill lamp lights and relay RLA is energized causing the refill valve to be opened, the exhaust valve to shut, a water supply for a greenhouse to be turned on and causing audible warning. The RS bistable changes back when the level reaches the first photo-resistor again. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1438271.
