Abstract
1532545 Electro-forming video disc replicas MCA DISCO-VISION Inc 3 Feb 1976 [24 Feb 1975] 04202/76 Heading C7B A replica from a three-dimensional matrix (46), Fig. 4 (not shown) in which information is represented as a multiplicity of discrete raised protuberances 47 on, or identations in, the matrix surface e.g. a video disc is produced by electro-depositing metal on to the surface to form a self-supporting first negative replica mother (52) Fig. 6 (not shown) and separating the mother from the matrix surface. A conductive layer e.g. Ag film 48 may be electrolessly deposited on to the matrix surface before electro-deposition first of Cu layer 49 then of Ni layer 50. Further metal may be electro-formed on to the mother surface e.g. first Ni (54) Fig. 7 (not shown), then Cu (56) and finally Ni (58), to form a self-supporting positive replica submaster (60), Fig. 8 (not shown); preferably the mother surface may be passivated prior to electro-forming e.g. by oxidation with oxygen, ozone, nitric acid or KMnO 4 . Further a negative replica may be formed by electro-forming a separable submother using the submaster as an electro-forming mandrel. The submother or submaster may be used as an electro-forming mandrel to form a separable stamper for stamping and/or embossing video disc replicas. Alternatively a die may be electro-formed for casting and/or moulding the replicas. Specifications 1493113 and 1489774 are referred to.
