1531893 Catadioptric lenses with selectable focal lengths RANK ORGANISATION Ltd 27 Jan 1977 [10 May 1976] 19213/76 Heading G2J The focal length of a catadioptric lens Figs. 1A and B is changed by changing the secondary mirror while maintaining unchanged the following parameters:- (a) the entrance pupil position and aperture (b) the image position and diameter As described, the exchange of secondary mirrors is accompanied by a change of lenses within the aperture of the primary mirror. In the Example of Figs. 2A-B (not shown), a plane secondary is used in the shorter focal length configuration, while a dispersive mirror/lens combination is used in the longer focal length configuration, the change being accompanied by the exchange of a lens between the aperture of the primary mirror and the image plane. Detailed data of both configurations are given. The objective is useful for interchangeable day/ night observation devices.
